I'd had enough of the valley
So I took a walk down to Vincent Street
Thinking there might be somebody
Hanging round there that I'd like to meet
But I walked 'round there for hours
And there was no one that I could see
No one but three cut of flowers
Oh, singing 'oh, pretty darling, move on, pretty darling'
So I went back to the valley and there was still nothing there but weeds
And my girl long, tall Sally just said 'baby, it's so free with me'
So I sailed out to the island
Laid on my back staring at the stars
As they all danced high above me
Oh, singing 'Oh pretty darling. Go home, pretty darling'
So I sailed back from the island now stood there now just skin and bones hoping to say 'Hey, Sally come, on then. Let's get rid of gold"
But Sally'd gone and got married
So I sat up in that house alone
Looking back out across the valley
And singing 'oh pretty darling. Where'd you run, pretty darling?'
oh pretty darling
oh pretty darling
